“Youth work begins with practitioners understanding that young people will always remain at the centre of all we do.”
Matthew Popo - WeThnk Founder
Message from the founder
Welcome to Wethnk. A place where belief in young people isn't just a principle. It's a promise.
I'm Matthew Popo, and I founded Wethnk on one simple but powerful idea: every young person deserves a champion. Someone in their corner, believing in their potential, and walking with them toward their future.
My journey began studying Criminology and from there took me somewhere I hadn't expected. Through Birmingham's inner-city communities, residential social care, grassroots football, the voluntary sector, and ultimately into education, one truth became impossible to ignore: young people are capable of extraordinary things, but they need practitioners who are equipped, invested, and united to help them get there.
That conviction became the heartbeat of everything I do.
For more than 15 years I have been fighting for better outcomes for young people — leading pastoral teams, mentoring students, training professionals, engaging families, and designing programmes that shift mindsets and change lives. I have worked alongside communities in London, Manchester, and Birmingham, and now I am proud to bring that experience home, working with schools, commissioners, and communities across Telford, Shropshire, and the wider West Midlands.
So, why Wethnk?
Because it is not just a programme or a service, it is a movement. A collective of youth workers, educators, parents, and professionals committed to building the village that so many young people desperately need. Through honest mentoring, bold conversations, and meaningful training, Wethnk is raising the standard of what good youth engagement looks like — and reshaping how we support the next generation.
If this resonates with you, you are already part of it.
Whether you are a headteacher looking for pastoral support, a commissioner designing a youth programme, a faith leader wanting to better serve your community, or simply someone who believes in young people — there is a place for you here.
Let's press on together.
Matthew,
Wethnk Founder, Youth Engagement, Pastoral and Behaviour Specialist
