The review follows a clear four-phase process, giving pastoral leaders visibility at every stage before final submission.
How it works
Phase 1 — Fact Finding Matthew conducts thorough desk-based research including a detailed review of existing pastoral policies covering behaviour management, pupil engagement, community engagement, and reward systems, alongside exclusion data and the most recent Ofsted report. This ensures on-site time is spent on analysis and conversation rather than information gathering.
Phase 2 — On-Site Review Structured interviews with relevant staff — pastoral leads, heads of year, SENCO, and DSL — and a representative group of pupils. This gives a complete picture: what the policies say, what practitioners experience, and what young people actually feel.
Phase 3 — Draft Report A detailed draft report is produced and shared with the pastoral leadership team before final submission — giving leaders the opportunity to review findings, clarify points, and ensure recommendations are accurate and actionable.
Phase 4 — Final Report and Debrief The final report is submitted with clear, prioritised recommendations aligned to the 2025 Ofsted Inspection Framework. A debrief session with the leadership team walks through findings and agrees next steps.
